The ancient defensive fortification was presumably built in the Magno-Greek period and, in Roman times, assumed a decisive role in the defense of the city of Reggio from the Bruzi. In the Middle Ages, the building became an important military center presided over by the Norman Robert the Juiscard. The square stands on a belvedere overlooking the bay of Marina Grande and the Castle. From the belvedere it is also possible to admire the enchanting view of the Strait of Messina with Punta Faro and Lake Ganzirri, against the backdrop of the Aeolian Islands.\nAround the Church of San
